From Gamespot's live blog, straight from Kaz Hirai's keynote.

http://tgs.gamespot.com/story.html?sid= ... lk=topslot
11:04 PDT: BAM! Dual Shock 3 is now official.
11:08 PDT: As soon as the vibration function was decided upon, Sony announced it to their partners, although there was little time to add it to games before TGS. That said, 11 games so far have incorporated the the function.
11:07 PDT: Games that will use the Dual Shock 3's rumble function include DMC 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4.
11:07 PDT: The Dual Shock 3 looks exactly like the Sixaxis, and will launch in Japan in November, and North American and Europe in spring 2008.
Nice to see the familiar Dual Shock name instead of the gimmicky SIXAXIS.

From Kotaku's live blog of Kaz Hirai's keynote:
Kaz formally announces the rumble equipped DualShock 3. Both the SIXAXIS and DualShock 3 logos are shown on the controller. There are no other changes to its outward appearance.

The new DualShock 3 is planned to ship in Japan this November, US and Europe in Spring 2008. No price is available today, but the new controller will be on hand at TGS, playable in echochrome, Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted, Devil May Cry 4, Toy Home, Metal Gear Online and more. In total, ten titles currently support the DualShock 3.
Ang saya mag-MGS4 at DMC4 nito. May recoil na kasama. :-)

TGS 2007: Rumble Confirmed

US, September 19, 2007 - Big shocker at today's Electronic Arts pre Tokyo Game Show press event. While playing a demo of Burnout Paradise, we felt something that we never thought we'd feel from a PS3 controller -- shake!

That's right, Burnout Paradise is the first rumble-equipped PS3 game we've ever played. Which made us think at the time, if the game is making the controller shake, the controller must be a new version of the Sixaxis!

In fact, the controller we were using to play the demo looked exactly like a standard Sixaxis, except that it had a sticker on the bottom that said "RUMBLE." It also felt notably heavier than the standard Sixaxis.

We presume this is a prototype of the PlayStation 3's new rumble controller, whatever it's going to be called.

The rumble itself felt around the level of PlayStation 2 rumble. We're not sure just yet if Sony is using any of that next generation technology Immersion has been talking about for the past few months.

A formal announcement is expected tomorrow at Kaz Hirai's keynote address.

As for the rest of the EA event, as well as details from today's Sony and Konami events, check back at IGNPS3 through the night.

[7:07] The Dual Shock 3 looks exactly like the Sixaxis, and will launch in Japan in November, and North America and Europe in spring 2008. No exact date or pricing are mentioned, nor does he say whether it has to be bought separately or will be bundled with future PS3s.

[7:07] Games that will use the Dual Shock 3's rumble function include DMC 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

[7:09] As for existing titles, they can be updated via the PlayStation Network so they can use the vibration function, says Hirai.

[7:10] Hirai says this updating is a result of how the game industry is moving rapidly towards a networked world.

[7:10] Now, he has an exciting announcement to make--Grand Turismo 5: Prologue will be available on December 13 in Japan.

[7:15] People have been asking for more convenience, and people can now access the PlayStation Store from PCs and transfer content to PSPs as of today.

[7:18] "The game industry is quite unique compared to other industries," he says. "What Sony needs to do is get back to basics."
I feel nostalgic right now... do you guys remember when Sony released the first ever Dual Shock?

ganda...

"Well, it appears the answer to that remains a bit up in the air, but the consensus seems to be that the rumble feature in DS3 does indeed feature new technology. Initially, one Sony source said the Dual Shock 3 will be identical to the Dual Shock 2- According to the Advanced Media Network, Sony's Kimberly Otzman said the rumble "will be exactly the same in both controllers with no difference in technology." This doesn't appear to be the case, though, as several sources, including 1Up, have put their hands on the new controller and found the rumble actually comes from different spots. They were playing MGS4 with it, for example, and when getting shot at from a certain direction, the controller would...well, rumble in that general direction. That'd be like our own little personal radar!

But the final aspect of concern is logical- what impact will this have on the battery life of the wireless controller? We needn't worry about that, though, as Otzman said the rumble won't have any "great strain" on the battery life. Sony expects the controller to last up to 15 hours with rumble enabled, although you'll still be able to get 30 hours out of it without the feature enabled. If you're wondering, the Xbox 360 controller last about 10 hours with the rumble on."

sana totoo yung localized rumbling :D

Man, news on the new DS3 is getting better and better! Localized rumble would really benefit gameplay. Imagine playing Silent Hill and rumbling starts on the upper right portion of the controller. Scary!

It's also a good substitute for those who doens't have home theater sound system. Explosions can be felt on different parts of the controller. Very immersive! :-)
