^3 things i could think of:
There's always be a catch, sigurado yan.

I think they are going to increase the VAT, also the excise tax on automobiles , have to replace the budget shortfall

There's always a catch with tax deduction...Naalala ko nun las BPO ko, i rendered OT for a week and a half = additional 2,5k. Pag dating ng payday, 500 lang nakuha ko. Tax deductions ko pala for that cut off is 2k. Nyeh. Sayang pinaghirapan

They are not increasing the vat. Theyre removing vat exemptions for a lot of good that dont need them, and for sectors with no basis of exemption.darkwing_uop wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2017 2:56 am I think they are going to increase the VAT, also the excise tax on automobiles , have to replace the budget shortfall
They are inreasing the tax on automobiles, but the increases are progressive. They are also increasing the excise tax on oil which has not been updated since 1997.

oh I meant they are expanding the VAT, and increasing the tax on fuel, won't that increase prices on goods? plus public utility drivers will demand higher fares
hopefully oil price won't increase in the international market, because if they do a percentage increase in the oil tax, yikes
it's a very complicated business, why don't they concentrate on a more efficient tax collection just like the IRS in the US

The excise tax on oil hasnt been updated since 1997, meaning the real value of our oil excise taxes have been falling ever since. The excise tax is a specific tax and not an ad valorem tax, so it isnt based on a percentage of price. I think the increases will be strctured in such a way that it will be adjusted every year for the next three years to increase excise taxes by 6 pesos per liter.
They are not just addressing deficiencies in tax policy, but also improving tax administration. The truth is our tax policy needs updating, since we are one of the lowest revenue countries in the region.
If we want to be an upper middle income country, and invest in public infra and human capital (again among the lowest in the region), these are simply things we have to do.
The people will adjust to price increases, its going to be a sacrifice we have to endure. But if it results in better revenues (which will hopefully fund our needs as a growing country), then it will be worth it.

tell that to the most affected once fuel price increases, everything will cascade
I still advocate a more efficient tax collection first before expanding/increasing taxes
for example, especially those who in the professional field like doctors and lawyers, how many of them issue ORs for example for their professional fees

Well i'll tell that to everybody, and i do tell it to everybody (im not at liberty to say how but i do engage in this policy discussion with people from different sectors). Prices will adjust. Thats the way the world works. I think you're overstating the impact of the tax reform on inflation.darkwing_uop wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2017 3:07 pm tell that to the most affected once fuel price increases, everything will cascade

That's implementation of the law, which kim henares did last term. And our tax revenues did not increase significantly. She went after doctors, professionals, lawyers and self employed for tax evasion, and yet nothing improved significantly.
You cant complain about traffic, infrastuture, health and education without discussing tax reform. And its short sighted to think that only efficient tax collection is the only answer when tax administraton improvements have only marginally increased over the past six years.
Guess what improved our tax collection the most over the past few years? The sin tax. Which helped fund our health spending and improved our health insurance system greatly.

2 factors. 1 is kayang magbayad, 2 is willing magbayad.
A. kaya at willing magbayad. ok yan pautangin. its a matter of when sya makakabayad.
b. kaya at ayaw magbayad. pass.

Period.
My usual reaction? Wala. Dedma sabay ngiti at alis. Simple as that...

It is what it is.

Multiple people ang pinahiram ko ng pera, yung isang case is around 6-7 years ago pa, which is really frustrating...
