Im new here, registered to announce my ps3 ylod haha.
My cechl05 ps3 80 gb model got the ylod after playing MVC3 Unit was purchased june 9 2009 ps3 started showing signs of ylod the first time when I played MVC3 back in april at first MVC3 lang yung laro na mamatay yung ps3 ko with 3 beeps. Then as time went on other games like red dead, gta IV will experience it. Now just today turn on ko palang wala na 3 beeps na. ugh. Took me 3 tries to make it start and show xmb.

actually, meron naman talagang permanent fix pero matrabaho re-balling ang kailangan which para sa kin mas better na lang bumili nang bago and hope na hindi na matamaan ng YLOD...

MOST YLOD occurs whenever there's an error communicating between the GPU/RSX and the main Mobo.. Contacts between them get so stressed due to overheating or sometimes dislodged BGA pads. Unleaded solder balls used to the chip is somewhat weak especially to the heat produced by the chip .. Poor ventilation,drying up thermal compound and weakening fan adds up to the main cause.
Cold solder from the chip. It is common to those chip with UNLEADED solder BGA balls.
Dislodged or removed BGA pads. mostly from units that are so stressed or sometimes dropped. I already "jumpered" the line and those pink substance is my insulator (actually it is from my daughter's nail polish )
Replacing LEADED solder balls will eventually minimize the main cause of YLOD which is the loose contacts between the 2 (Chip & Mobo).I don't want to sound technical but LEADED will definitely make the GPU or most chips that produce heat quite "flexible" to the main board.
UNLEADED solder balls tends to "dry up" or loose their conductivity because of overheating it also tends to loose their contact on either of the chip or the Mobo.
ALL consoles today are manufactured with UNLEADED solder (International Rule/Law) ..so no console is prone-free to YLOD (as for PS3). Hindi porke bago hindi na magy YLOD!
As for my REBALLING service .. it is somewhat a refresher and I may say a correction . Refresher ..as it will fix all dislodged, loosing contacts and cold solders between the chip (GPU/RSX) and Mobo.. Correction .. using LEADED solder balls to heat producing chips is definitely a MUST.. hindi lang magawa ng manufacturers because of the Law.

The directives on lead-free solder were introduced to protect people who work in factories where huge quantities of PCBs are soldered (and hence where there are measurably high amounts of lead vapour in the atmosphere and the general environment), not to protect amateur hobbyists.
Lead-free solder laws came into force in 2006 in the EU. The PS2 was first built in 2000, and on that basis alone it is probably safe to assume that the PS2 solder does contain lead, and that the end of manufacture of the PS2 happening at the same time as the introduction of the new H&S laws was not a coincidence.

Implementing LEAD FREE are for "health risk factors" nothing to do on consoles ..(Actually ALL PCB now are with LEAD FREE solder)
but still ,using LEAD FREE will have an effect on our console .... look at XBox360 the RROD phenomena. The design is good .. the ventilation is good but why are they prone to 3RL .. High heat+UNLEADED Solder = Disaster .. I reballed plenty of Xenon (the most heat producing Xbox360 @ 95nm GPU)and everything runs smoothly once the GPU is reballed with Leaded solder balls even without any fan mod. I have clients who are arcade operators which consoles are used mostly the whole day and with their testimonies that I'm so certain that changing UNLEADED solder with LEADED will definitely have an impact!
Search for RoHS (Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and we will understand why Lead Free Solders are being promoted.
RoHS is in compliment to the WEEE Directive - proper disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment.
