Sega Made a Bid on Atlus, 20 Billion Yen Offered

http://www.dualshockers.com/2013/08/02/ ... n-offered/
According to a report by Bloomberg Japan about twenty companies including Sega Sammy Holdings made a bid on the studio behind Persona and Catherine.

Executives familiar with the situation reported that some of the bids reached about 20 billion yen (a little south of 201 million dollars) in the primary auction held earlier this week.

In July Index hired the GCA Savvian firm to serve as advisor during the transfer of business ownership. Kazumasa Otsuka of the Nijubashi law firm declined to comment or to share details about the actual procedure implemented for the auction. A representative of Sega Sammy Holdings did not offer any comment as well.

Atlus is being sold because its parent company Index Corporation filed for Civil Rehabilitation (the Japanese equivalent of a soft Bankruptcy) after finding itself in debt of 24.5 billion yen (almost 246 million dollars).

There is still no word on the results of the auction, so all we can do for now is wait and see, while hoping that Atlus will be acquired by a party that will guarantee its quality, creativity and independence.

Sega Teases Yakuza “Surprise Announcement”, New Yakuza Game Incoming for PS4?

Image

Sega just announced that the results of the popularity contest between Yakuza (Ryu ga Gotoku) characters held on the series’ official website will be officially disclosed on August the 18th at 5 PM Japan time directly on the iconic landmark mega screen Alta Vision in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

But that’s not all. The official announcement mentioned something a lot juicier, in the form of a “surprise announcement” set to happen during the unveiling. Considering the timing, we’re most probably going to hear about a new Yakuza game, considering that almost all the previous chapters of the series have been announced between August and September.

The series’ creator Toshihiro Nagoshi already mentioned that Yakuza 5 would be the last Yakuza game of the PS3 generation. Will we hear about Yakuza 6 for PS4 on August the 18th? Will the series remain PlayStation Exclusive?

hoping for Yakuza 5 Localization

Sega Sammy to acquire Atlus parent company Index
Persona under the same wing as Sonic and Yakuza.

Sega Sammy will acquire Atlus parent company Index for approximately 14 billion yen in November, according to a report from Japanese news site Nikkei.

Atlus is well known as the publisher and developer of the Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, and Etrian Odyssey series.

Sega, as well as J Trust, were one of the approximately 20 buyers reportedly interested in purchasing Atlus when it was up for auction last month.

I'm good with SEGA :agree:

This might not sound good to some, but there's potential here. Imagine Atlus developing a new Skies of Arcadia or Valkyria Chronicles. Also, with Atlus USA, it's hopeful that we can get more English versions of games

The title of the page reads “Action x Simulation x Card Battle.” The center of the page contains the Japanese character for “violent” or “rage.” Below that, the text, “The new story will begin.” And finally, it promises an update on October 28.

The source code of the page mentions “PS Vita” and “PlayStation Vita” in its meta tags, suggesting it’s a PS Vita game, as well as the number “4936.”

SEGA has No Plans Releasing Phantasy Online 2 outside Japan (PS4)

The people at Kotaku has contacted SEGA about the possibility of the Playstation 4 version of Phantasy Star Online 2 coming West. This is the response they recieved from a SEGA representative.

“SEGA is currently not planning to release the PS4 version of Phantasy Star Online 2 outside of Japan,”

It has been over 3 years since SEGA announced at PAX 2012 that they would be bringing Phantasy Star Online 2 over from Japan on the PC and Playstation Vita. Then, silence. We got a few generic ‘its still coming’ answers from them, but this is the first time they have officially denied it coming West.

The website features six differently colored lines and the numbers “3939.00 / 3939.”

As noted by Games Talk, this is likely a play on words, as the numbers three and nine can be read together in Japanese as “Miku.”

A new Hatsune Miku project is already known to be in development. Sega and Piapro opened a page for users to submit their illustrations to be included in the end credits for a new “Sega feat. Hatsune Miku Project” ealier this month. And a tweet from the official Sega feat. Hatsune Miku Twitter account teased that they’ll be able to tell everyone about the new project in the near future.
