It is being dubbed the “Ultimate Evil Edition,” and promises to offer a “completely new experience to console gamers” that takes “full advantage” of PlayStation 4′s features with a custom-designed interface, touch pad functionality, and social features. It will also include the updates and enhancements premiering in the upcoming Reaper of Souls expansion on PC.

Owners of the PlayStation 3 version will be able to fully transfer their characters to the PlayStation 4 version when it launches. But it is a one-way transfer. Once your character is migrated to the PlayStation 4 version, there’s no bringing it back to the PlayStation 3 version.

Set for release next year, the game will include Diablo 3 and upcoming expansion Reaper of Souls.

Diablo 3 launched on PC in May 2012 and on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013. Lifetime Diablo 3 sales across all platforms have now reached 14 million units.

"We're pleased with the response to the game's launch on PS3 and Xbox 360," Blizzard boss Mike Morhaime told investors last week.

"Reviews have been very positive about how the game plays on console. Much of the praise has been centred on changes we made to the loot system and our decision to keep the auction house off of the console platform.

"Players and critics alike have noted that these changes have resulted in a more fun and satisfying game experience," he added. "That reaction factored in our decision to remove the auction houses from the PC version of Diablo 3 effective next March, which players have also responded very positively to.

"We're building upon those design philosophies for loot and incorporating them into Reaper of Souls."

During a the launch event of Diablo 3: Reapers of Souls, GamingBolt got in touch with the title’s lead producer Alex Mayberry. During our 15 minute chat with Alex, we were able to ask him about how the PS4 version of Diablo 3 was shaping up.

With the PlayStation 4 and the games that have been released so far, there’s been a lot of talk regarding frame-rate and resolution. We asked Alex whether there will be a case of scaling back certain things on the PS4 from the PC or is it going to be full HD with high frame-rates like what everybody wants.

“Our goal is to always have the highest resolution we can get and the fastest frame-rates. We will have to make adjustments to take advantage of the console architecture versus the PC. They do behave slightly differently but whatever changes we make should only be for the benefit of the platform and not something that players would really notice, more under the hood kind of changes. We really look at trying to make the game experience great from holding a controller in your hand and it kind of starts from there. You know having the dual-sticks and being able to drive your character, the gameplay of the console version feels inherently different anyway because they are different controls. So we will really cater the game to take advantage of that, of holding a controller in your hands,” Alex explained to GamingBolt.

We also asked him about the chances of seeing an Xbox One version of Diablo 3, to which he replied:

“I can’t say when or if that will happen only that we develop for both platforms as part of what we do. If it does come to Xbox One we’ll make announcement, once that’s for certain.”

Senior Producer on the console version of Diablo 3, Julia Humphreys, confirmed that the game will run at 900p on Xbox One; the PS4 version had previously been confirmed to run natively at 1080p. Both versions will run at 60 frames per second.

"We're prioritizing frame rate," Humphreys said regarding the quality difference.

Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition is coming to the Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360 and PS3 on August 19.
