Marvel's The Avengers remained the No. 1 movie at the North American box office for the third weekend in a row, soundly defeating new releases Battleship, The Dictator and What to Expect When You're Expecting. The Avengers is now Disney's highest-grossing domestic film ever, and is currently No. 7 on the list of all-time worldwide releases (not adjusted for inflation).

Battleship, starring Taylor Kitsch, opened lower than Kitsch's earlier box office disappointment John Carter. (It's not all bad news for Battleship as it's already made over $215 million overseas since opening in many international markets April 11.) Sacha Baron Cohen's new comedy The Dictator also underperformed.
