anything and everything Final Fantasy

Let's talk about anything about video games, no matter what platform it is. What is your favorite game? Who is your favorite character? What are the recently released games? What is DLC (downloadable content)? How do I beat this boss? How do I set up my team?

Rumor: Square Enix Tells Final Fantasy VII Fans to “Let it Go”… Should We?
(playstationlifestyle)

Final Fantasy VII. A mere mention of the name evokes as many great memories as it does requests to remake the game in HD. Square Enix has commented on it sparingly in the past, but this month an anonymous employee has reportedly made the potential for a future remake look grim.

During CES 2012, several anonymous Square Enix employees apparently spoke to 2D-X about the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series, eventually sharing some disagreement with the thousands, if not millions, of fans that want to see Sephiroth wage battle on Gaia in 1080p.

''I honestly don’t believe that people truly understand Final Fantasy VII. I think if they went back and played it today, they wouldn’t appreciate it nearly as much as they did before. That might not be the case for all Final Fantasy VII fans, but I think a lot of people need to let it go and accept it for what it is.''

Is Final Fantasy VII really not as great as we remember it? Sure, the wealth of discussion about it over the years has made it somewhat of a legend in the gaming community, and some argue that there were other RPGs that were even better during the 90s (i.e. Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI). However, if Final Fantasy VII‘s sales, reputation, and multimedia collection are any indication, it’s a behemoth when compared to nearly any game in existence.

Rarely is gameplay brought into consideration, though, and that’s where Square Enix is probably right. Turn-based RPGs simply don’t fare well anymore, and their design team has been running around looking for a way to modernize JRPGs since Final Fantasy XII came out in 2006. But the combat isn’t what makes Final Fantasy VII arguably the most beloved game of all time. It’s rare to see a game with much content, such admirable characters, and a story that flows you through an unforgettable journey. If Square Enix is really struggling with how to tackle this, might I suggest Final Fantasy VII with Final Fantasy X‘s combat system? I’ve always wanted to use all of the characters available in a single fight, and that would be a great option.

So should we “let it go” or keep pushing? Given how dry JRPGs have been lately, I say we keep pushing. If anything, Square Enix is just waiting for a console that has a massive install-base to drive profitable sales. In an industry where profit is everything, it’d be a mistake for a corporate juggernaut like Square Enix to not take advantage of something with as much potential as a Final Fantasy VII remake.

It would be nice to have FF7 with FF10's combat system (yun pwede mo gamitin lahat ng characters in a battle via switching in battle), or a code (or DLC) that lets you use/ressurect Aerith/Aeris. but then again, hindi na sya FF7... XD

re: sa article above, nakakalungkot if ever hindi nga hindi sila gumawa ng remake ng FF7. FF10 nga may HD remake, why not do the same sa FF7? crossing fingers na lang ang pwede nating gawin.... :(

Happy 15th anniversary, Final Fantasy VII :birthday:
Now, in 2012, what’s next for Final Fantasy VII? Will Square Enix ever pursue the remake so oft-requested not too long ago? Or will the compilation lay to rest?

Music from Grin's canned Final Fantasy game 'Fortress' found unguarded
(joystiq)
Unreleased song from cancelled Final Fantasy title "Fortress"

Before Swedish megastudio Grin collapsed back in aught nine, it was juggling a trillion different projects for a trillion different publishers. One such project that never saw the light of day was a Final Fantasy franchise entry titled "Fortress," which we got a peek at not long after we learned of Grin's closure. And now we're able to hear some music sampled from the game as well, as former music director Erik Thunberg dropped one such track on his portfolio website.

So, uh, you may wanna line up these shots of the game with the music playing in another tab, to try and recreate the feeling of the Western-born Final Fantasy game that never was. Hold that Chocobo plushie extra tight.

We have to move on. Some things we have to let go. ff 7 and ff8 inaamin ko naging malaking part sya ng early teen life ko. But i don't think SE will gamble remaking those series. They had their spotlight and now it's time to move on. For sure they're cooking something better especially the fact na magkakaron ng next PS/xbox in 2-4 years time. :bball:

Just read FFXI wiki and counted all the zones that are in the game. Ang dami pala, around 250 zones comprising of cities, towns, fields, dungeons, battlefield, instance area. May prison area pa, para sa mga napapatawag ng mga GM.Napaka lawak talaga ng Vanadiel. I still remeber my days sa Valkurm Dunes sa FFXI, after getting HP there to level up, have to walk back to my starting city Bastok if i have no warp item or no one to warp us back. 3 field zones ang tatahakin ko. From the port town of Selbina which is at the center of the the Dunes running back to Bastok took me more than 30 minutes without encountering any mobs pa on the way.

Square Enix's Voice Localization Toolkit is Named After Moogles
(adriasang)
When localizing its games, Square Enix uses a tool that it calls "Moomle." Yes, this tool is named after Final Fantasy's Moogle mascot character.

Square Enix's Hikaru Taniyama and Masaharu Shibayama detailed Moomle and other area of localization today during a Game Developer's Conference session titled "Audio Localization Done Right: Simultaneous Scripting and Recording."

Moomle is a management tool which localization staff uses to manage voice and text data. The tool also stores the original text and dialogue, complete with change history. Using the tool Square Enix's localization department can manage all languages from one location.

In addition to the name's Moogle ties, Taniyama and Shibayama joked that the name is also similar to the Japanese for "I can't take it anymore" ("Mou, muri!"), indicating the difficulties in localization.

The session used Final Fantasy XIII-2 as an example. The recently released sequel had 555,047 Japanese characters. In English, this became 1,373,388 words. The game's voice component included 18,098 lines.
