I know you heard and read this news across facebook.
Telstra will be the 3rd player in the local Telco Business competing with Smart/Sun and Globe.
They're bragging 100mpbs broadband plan much cheaper on services provided by Smart and Globe.
This Australian telco will be operated here in the Phils. by San Miguel Corporation.
So what do you think about it?

Di ako maniniwala sa ganun na service kaagad. Kung talagang papasok ang Telstra dito, may mga reservations ako. Kasi to provide the service being seen in social media. It would require a massive infrastructure. This is something a company cannot provide immediately. Unless their stockholders are willing to shell out alot of money. I think it's going to build up that infrastructure over time. So I think, I will wait and see muna.

Yeah, I'm skeptical about such grand promises. It's not as if San Miguel is the bastion for good business practices either. Kahit sabihin natin na may foreigner na papasok, they're still limited to 40 percent share of this venture, so majority San Miguel pa din may control nito.
I'll believe it when I see it.

they are willing to shell out money as in Billions of dollar$. Telstra itself is shelling out at least $1B.

while they are currently applying for a $500M loans from top banks from Philippines.

considering they already bought pacnet, which is the internet carrier on which PLDT is connected giving a larger bandwidth is already there.
but as far as I read it they would be just be providing mobile data, meaning wireless only, but I just hope I read it wrong.
anyways, I'll just be ready for their pocket wifi

if ever magkapalpak ang telstra sa simula, pagpipistahan ito ng Smart at Globe at sisiraan pa lalo.
they could say, "Imposible dito sa pinas yang pinapangako nila".
Well i have a question for Smart and Globe. how come a fast broadband speed in SG is much cheaper compared here?
Let's see if they Duopolists justified their answers. hehehe..

I worked for Telstra for 3 years under an international BPO.....I worked for them as a CSR, Trainer, Systems Specialist & finally a Workforce Analyst...deathzero23 wrote:I know you heard and read this news across facebook.

In those 3 years (from 2010 to 2013), the only complaints i ever recall encountering (when i was still taking in calls for them) was the costs of their plans...Never i have encountered anyone complaining about the service, but rather just the plans...Mahal kasi ang plans ng Telstra...
I even spoke with an Aussie Mom who purchased from me an ADSL plan (yan tawag nila sa DSL nila dun), for her son to be able to connect his PS3 online (wala pa PS4 nun)...
And just to share, one of Telstra's top executive based here was even "pirated" by Globe Telecom, inofferan yata ng malaki, plus condo & car. Nagulat na lang kami at kinagat nya.
As for the satisfactory ratings, nadadala yan dahil sa mahal ng services nila...Minsan poor customer service din. I'm not defending Telstra, pero despite the numerous TIO (Telecom Ombudsman) complaints sa kanila sa Australia, going strong pa rin business nila.
So my thoughts about the cheaper price? Not going to give my 2 cents yet, baka kasi may catch, pero in a nutshell, if they can deliver the same speed/service they do in their home country (Australia), then it would surely give Smart & Globe a major run for their money....

IMHO lang, mayamang isla ang SG so they (the telcos) can virtually afford the technology to bring this kind of service to their consumers. Hindi sila ganun ka-greedy tulad ng mga telcos ng pinas na ultimo prepaid eh gagatasan pa nila. Tsaka isa pa, maganda din ang infastructure ng buong isla nila to accomodate the necessary configuration to sustain a better connection to its users so in short, you will really get what you pay for over there.deathzero23 wrote: Well i have a question for Smart and Globe. how come a fast broadband speed in SG is much cheaper compared here?

Yep, pinas is not yet ready in terms of infrastructure to make this happen and for sure the local telco will most likely not allow it kasi nakabase pa rin talaga sa spending power ng common pinoy ang iooffer na services nila. Kaya nga patok sa masa ang mga unli plans na yan kasi sanay ang mga pinoy sa mga patingi-tingi na purchase while getting more for less.

I'll stick with PLDT. I'm sure they'll adapt accordingly. If they decide to crawl under a rock a die, then I'll switch. If what you say is true about Telstra, I'm already dissatisfied with PLDT's customer service so why bother switching.
