Let's talk about anything about video games, no matter what platform it is. What is your favorite game? Who is your favorite character? What are the recently released games? What is DLC (downloadable content)? How do I beat this boss? How do I set up my team?
On the Resident Evil Facebook page Capcom opens the floor for comments with the following:
Hello Resident Evil fans!
This is Capcom R&D Division 1!
First off, we would like to express our deepest appreciation to all Resident Evil fans, for your passion, enthusiasm and continued support for the Resident Evil brand.
Enthusiasm for a Resident Evil 2 Remake is something we've been hearing from you over the years, and has drawn some recent attention in the media.
However, as the team owns the RE brand, we're not certain how we feel about this approach, and would like to ask your honest and frank opinion about the “Resident Evil 2 Remake†and what the brand identity is supposed to be about?
Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, who produced the Resident Evil HD remaster, pitched a Resident Evil 2 remake to Capcom today.
“Hello RE fans! This is H [Hirabayashi] again!†Hirabayashi said in a post on the official Resident Evil Facebook page. “Right after the RE HD Remaster project was finished, I actually started putting together my ideas for this ‘RE2 Project’. So, I just brushed it up and went to see my boss to present the basic concept of the project already…â€
Capcom has officially announced a remake of Resident Evil 2.
“Thank you for your great support on this Resident Evil 2 Remake Project,†producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said in a video message. “Thanks to your incredible passion and support, the project has finally been approved for development!â€
Hirabayashi, of course, is referring to the fan response from his initial pitch to Capcom two weeks ago.
“You’ve been telling us for years that you want Resident Evil 2 to be remade, and we haven’t been able to make this happen… until now! We at R&D Division 1 will do our best to take on your feedback and deliver the gameplay experience you’ve been waiting for.
“Just as I’ve been reaching out to you about the project via Facebook in the last few days, we will try to deliver news and messages about this project to you, the fans, directly.
“It will be some time before we can bring you an update on this project, but in the meantime, you can look forward to lots of exciting things from the Resident Evil Brand in future, such as the upcoming HD remaster of Resident Evil 0.â€
The Resident Evil 2 remake was confirmed back in August when the original team asked for fan opinion on the matter. After a deluge of people presumably shouting "take my money" at screens, Capcom quickly confirmed that it was in the pipeline.
However, concern arose when the project was incorrectly called a 'remaster' in a recent Capcom investment call. Step in Capcom marketing director Stuart Turner who has cleared up the issue with the below tweet.
