Hey! Yeah, it's a good job to have, I admit. My advice is write a lot and write well. Even if you can pump out 1,000-word essays in five-minutes, no one will hire you if you can't write well. I'm speaking generally here and not to you specifically. And again, learning how to write in AP is very, very helpful. Once you nail that, try and have your piece published in a reputable site (preferably, US-based) and work from there. Once PR and developers know you a bit, you'll then be able to ask for interviews, which leads to content you can shop around and use as leverage.superawts wrote:Wow this is nice! I've always wanted to try out writing for video games since its my hobby, but as of now I'm currently writing mostly news articles and sometimes feature articles for a government agency I try to write game reviews in a fun but different way (see my link below haha shameless promotion) hoping for any form of advice or exposure or anything related to gaming!
There's a ton of back-end stuff about it, too, but it's hard to explain in a forum post.
Also of note, I met with a forum member over the weekend and had a blast. We talked about the games industry and mostly about doing this as a profession. If ever anyone wants to do a coordinate meeting of sorts with a few people, I'm game. I'm always open to meet fellow gamers -- especially those who want to "break in" the games media field. Corny, but true. =)
