This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Ratchet & Clank franchise – and Insomniac Games wants to make it a huge birthday. It’s not every day you turn 10! I mean, Ratchet can drive now (on some planets)! To celebrate, we’ve already announced the Ratchet & Clank HD Collection coming later this fall, but that’s not enough for our furry Lombax friend. He needs more.
So, we’re giving more.
Introducing Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault. This concentrated blast of adventure blends the series’ classic comedy, camera, and controls with an innovative new way to play. Assemble your arsenal, drop into an intergalactic conflict, and get trigger happy – solo or online and split screen with friends. You can dive into the full experience later this year, but we’ll be revealing more info as the months go on. Insomniac Games Community Lead James Stevenson also answered some questions and revealed some information in the comments:
- Stevenson said that FFA will be closer to Quest For Booty than A Crack In Time, but will be more replayable than either of those games.
- No time puzzles are in FFA, but there’s a “whole new twist†this time and it’s “not a mind-bending one.â€
- The game will be released in Europe as Ratchet & Clank: Q-Force and will be released on a region-free Blu-ray.
- The European release should occur in the same week as the North American release.
- When asked if there would be a Vita version of Ratchet & Clank, Stevenson replied: “That’s all up to Sony. We’re focused on console development.â€
- Story-wise, the game is “definitely†set after All 4 One, but is not the Future saga — it’s a standalone story.
- When asked about the possibility of Ratchet: Deadlocked getting an HD remaster or a PS2 Classics release, Stevenson replied: “*whistles and walks away*â€
Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault will launch in North America on November 27th, and it will be available both on the PlayStation Network and in stores. It will cost $19.99. Its release date and cost in other territories is still unknown.
Full Frontal Assault supports cross-buy, meaning that if you purchase the PS3 version of the game, you get the Vita iteration for free. Likewise, it supports cross-save, giving you a ubiquitous experience across platforms.

As many of you may know, when you purchase Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault for PS3, you’ll also be entitled to receive a downloadable version for your PS Vita system with cross-save and competitive cross-play support.
Our friends at Tin Giant have been working hard to bring Insomniac’s PS3 game to PS Vita and to ensure that your experience is packed with all the action and polish you’d expect from a Ratchet & Clank game. In order to provide the best gameplay experience possible, the PS Vita version of Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault will be coming out in January 2013. The PS3 version will still be available for purchase at participating retailers and on PSN starting on November 27, 2012.
As a reward to fans for their patience, we will be giving them the first piece of DLC for the title, the Mini-Boss Skin Pack, as a bonus with their purchase of Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault for PS3. This skin pack features three fan-favorite boss characters from past Ratchet & Clank games, including Chainblade from Going Commando and the Two-eyed Tyrhrranoid from Up Your Arsenal. THE VERDICT
For every positive Full Frontal Assault musters up, there seems to be a negative lurking somewhere nearby. The exploration is a blast, but the shooting is a bust. Gradually upgrading defenses feels rewarding, but grinding for bolts proves tedious and stressful. In the end, the positives and negative battle to an uneasy stalemate that results in an experience that's simply middling. Full Frontal Assault is still plenty charming, and its smattering of unique ideas make worth a look, even if it’s only a passing glance.
Ratchet & Clank QForce – or ‘Full Frontal Assault’ if you’re in America – was developed by Insomniac Games, but the PS Vita build is being created by Tin Giant. However, it’s nowhere to be seen, and Insomniac games has expressed frustration over Sony’s silence over the matter.
Insomniac responded to fan question over the issue on its official Facebook page. The post in question has since been removed, but Polygon managed to nab it before it was nuked.
It reads:
Hey everyone,
We know you’ve been asking about and waiting for Full Frontal Assault for Vita.
Insomniac cannot make any comment about the game. We have repeatedly asked Sony and Tin Giant for an update to share with our fans. They have not provided any update we are allowed to share.
We are sorry for any disappointment, but there is nothing we’ve authorized to release publicly. Trust us in that we share your frustration, and have been passing your comments on to Sony, we also advise you contact Sony directly to share your disappointment and frustration.
As soon as they give us an update we can share with you, we will.

Insomniac is continuing its support for QForce on PS3 in the meantime, and while it’s supposed to be a cross-buy title with Vita, it seems gamers will have to wait for the privilege of playing it on their shiny OLED screen.
