Famitsu this week reveals Grand Kingdom, a new tactical RPG for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita from Grand Knights History director Tomohiko Deguchi due out later this year in Japan.

Set in a royal fantasy world of swords and magic, players will wage battle by commanding their own mercenaries. Four major powers are competing for dominance, and the player can choose which country it would like its mercenary group to support.

The game supports online multiplayer (it’s actually listed as an “online RPG,” but also supports offline) against players belonging to any of the four major powers. There is also a system to expand your territory through repeated invasion and defense.

Our source notes that although the game is similar to Grand Knights History, there is no direct relation, story and system-wise.

Though similar in name, Grand Kingdom is not a sequel to Grand Knights History. It is being developed by Deguchi's company, MonoChro, and will be published by Spike Chunsoft. Chizu Hashii (Blood+) is handling the character designs while Basiscape (Trauma Center, Valkyria Chronicles, Final Fantasy XII) is responsible for the game's soundtrack.

Combat is carried out on a turn-based order system, but players are able to move through the battlefield and chain combos together to maximize damage. Positioning is an important element in Grand Kingdom and players must think about the strengths and weaknesses of their mercenary group to survive.

Although the game is described as an "online RPG," Grand Kingdom will support offline play. In online multiplayer, players are pit against one another on opposing major powers; invading and defending territories effectively is the key to success.

The first four characters in Grand Kingdom were revealed:

Spike Chunsoft has released the third official trailer for their upcoming release of MonoChro’s Grand Kingdom.

This newly released third trailer furthers the endeavor of the first two – introducing characters, classes and gameplay in a quick burst of media.

Spike Chunsoft has unveiled a new trailer for recently delayed Vita game Grand Kingdom.

The game takes place in a world where four major factions exist. Players can choose one of the four to align with, or choose to live for themselves. You will raise armies, strengthen them, hire new recruits, take on quests and scenarios and battle against other players online.

Spike Chunsoft has delivered the opening cinematic animation for Grand Kingdom on their YouTube channel – showing off a march towards victory.

This new video shows off characters and locations in a trek across the map (quite literally); it’s Grand Kingdom’s opening cinematic animation, and it’s a nice little introduction to MonoChro’s new title.

Grand Kingdom is due out in Japan on November 19th, with a demo available via the Japanese PSN on the 12th.

Grand Kingdom Gets Lengthy Gameplay Videos

Grand Kingdom, the new tactical RPG from Spike Chunsoft and the director of Grand Knights History, has a demo version released in Japan along with two videos that total over thirty-six minutes of new gameplay footage. These videos show off battles as well as some exposition and tutroials. All text and voices are in Japanese.

Grand Kingdom releases on PlayStation Vita and PS4 on November 19, 2015 in Japan. There's no news of a western release yet.
