In an Activision blog post, the company announced that PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 ports of the game are in development. The last-gen versions will be handled by developers Beenox and Mercenary Technology.
Some features will have to be removed to support the older technology, such as a limit of two players for cooperative multiplayer instead of four.
"While the teams are working to deliver the best possible experience for Xbox 360 and PS3, naturally there will be some differences across generations," the post states. "For instance, the campaign mode on Xbox 360 and PS3 is currently in development with a goal of enabling two-player cooperative play, instead of the four-player cooperative campaign on next-gen. There will also be some other features and functionality built specifically for the new generation of consoles that cannot be supported on Xbox 360 and PS3."
Activision has no current plans to release the game on the Wii U. Call of Duty: Black Ops III is scheduled to come out this Fall on November 6.
