Is this what the Battlefield 3 LE contains?
EA and developer DICE are building up a lot of hype for Battlefield 3. Most recently, they've released a teaser trailer for the upcoming shooter and revealed a target release window.

They've also started accepting pre-orders for the game's limited edition version at the EA Store. Thing is, nobody knows exactly what that version contains just yet.

EA says that the LE's contents will be revealed at GDC, during which time the entire game will also be previewed more fully. Those who really want to know might not have to wait until March 1 comes, though.

According to this image spotted on GamersMint, the limited edition pack will come with a free Back to Karkand DLC pack that features Battlefield 2 maps reimagined using the new Frostbite 2.0 engine.

Additionally, the Back to Karkand pack will also feature classic Battlefield 2 vehicles and weapons, new achievements/trophies, and unique rewards.

The image also notes that Back to Karkand will be available as a paid download about a month after Battlefield 3 comes out.

Battlefield 3 is currently slated for a Fall 2011 release on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Here's another look at the teaser trailer DICE and EA dropped recently.

Battlefield 3 Limited Edition Comes With 4 Remastered Battlefield 2 Maps

Although Battlefield 3 hasn't had its first proper unveiling yet - that short teaser trailer doesn't count - that doesn't stop EA's marketing from planning ahead and prepping the game's Limited Edition for the masses. Oh no.

A leaked Battlefield 3 ad recently surfaced stating that those who purchase the Battlefield 3 Limited Edition will receive the 'Back to Karkand' expansion pack "at no extra charge."

The ad states that "This themed expansion pack features four legendary maps from Battlefield 2, boldly remastered with Frostbite 2 physics, destruction, and visuals. Completing the package are classic Battlefield 2 weapons and vehicles, unique rewards, new achievements/trophies and more."

If you were waiting on reviews or had your eyes on another game and weren't planning to pick it up at launch, fear not, according to the ad, "For those who don't pre-order to secure the Limited Edition, Battlefield 3 'Back to Karkand' expansion content will be available for purchase approximately one month after the game's release."

Game Informer also teased their upcoming cover yesterday evening with a few bits of "declassified intel," stating that the PC version is getting 64-player multiplayer, and there will be jets and also, prone.

Want more? Well, a Swedish retailer's listing states that the action will take us to "claustrophobic streets, metropolitan downtowns, and open, vehicle-friendly landscapes as you fight your way through the war of tomorrow," mentioning Paris, Tehran and New York as specific places you'll visit.

Battlefield 3 is scheduled for an autumn release. That's fall to you North Americans. Look out for our preview from GDC at the beginning of next month.

-Aiming for CY Q4 2011 release
-Concept for BF3 has been in the works for years, waiting on proper tech to seamlessly come together
-Frostbite 2.0 is the culmination of this tech, entirely re-written
-Lighting sounds neat; one "probe" contains more lighting information than an entire BFBC2 level.
-Level destruction is going to be "believable" but basically everything is destructible.
-Character animations powered by ANT, what EA Sports uses.
-AI characters and multiplayer characters have different animation sets
-No more "gliding" animations that look off, animation realism is a focus
-Captured their own war audios (bullets, tanks, helicopters, etc) at different distances to ensure realism
-Better audio cues for certain actions, more easily able to listen for threats
-Plan on better, more immediate post release content
-More unlocks than BFBC2
-Dice trying to find a good balance between customization of your character and not having "pink rabbit hat(s)"
-4 classes
-Will talk about squads "later"
-Looking into a theater mode but can't talk about it
-Will have co-op
-There will be a kill-cam but it can be turned off
-BF3's team is almost twice as big as the team for BFBC2
-They want the pacing of the single player mode to be balanced, with highs and lows. Makes the comparison to a song vs a guitar solo.
-Part of the single player mode takes place in Sulaymaniyah - Iraqi Kurdistan.
-"F**k" will be used often, so M rates for sure
-Significant narrative that goes with the SP mode
-More than one setting, you're not in the middle east for the whole game
-PC version is lead version
-Why 64 players for PC only? No complains from the console crowd.
-No mod tools at release. Maybe none down the line either. Frosbite 2.0 is complex and mods tools would have to be dumbed down, so does Dice really want to put their time to that or would it be better spent elsewhere?
